Typical Values in Disease

Using the new feces extraction procedure the upper reference limit is 50 mg/kg.

In active Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis levels are regularly above 500 mg/kg. Levels reflect the degree of disease activity and response to treatment.

Consistently increased levels predict relapse of IBD.

In gastric or colorectal cancer increased levels are found in >90% of patients with a median of about 200 mg/kg. Levels drop rapidly after radical surgery.
